Pigs in a Blanket with Salami
Upgrade the classic American appetizer with Italian salami and puff pastry for an irresistible bite that's crispy, savory, and utterly addictive—perfect for parties or a lazy afternoon snack.
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet thawed puff pastry
- 8–10 slices Italian salami (or soppressata)
- 8–10 small sausages or cocktail frankfurters
- 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
- Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional)
- Sea salt and cracked pepper
Method:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Lay out the thawed puff pastry and cut it into thin strips about 1 inch wide.
- Wrap each sausage first in a slice of salami, then spiral a pastry strip around it, leaving the ends slightly exposed.
- Place on the prepared tray, seam-side down. Brush lightly with mustard and season with salt, pepper, and a tiny rosemary leaf if using.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until the pastry is golden and puffed.
- Serve warm with extra mustard for dipping.
Chef's tip: Wrap these the night before and refrigerate—the cold pastry bakes up even crispier, and you'll have hot appetizers ready in minutes when guests arrive.
