Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Soft, buttery cinnamon rolls swirled with warmly spiced apples and topped with salted caramel icing—this is breakfast that feels like a hug. Make them the night before and wake up to pure comfort.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and finely diced
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce
  • Sea salt for topping

Method:

  1. Mix flours, yeast, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Whisk warm milk, melted butter, and egg together, then combine with dry ingredients until shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead for 5–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  3. Roll dough into a 12x8-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over surface.
  4. Toss diced apples with cinnamon and brown sugar, then scatter over butter evenly.
  5. Roll tightly from the long side and cut into 8 rolls. Place in a greased baking dish, cover, and refrigerate overnight (or let rise 30 minutes at room temperature).
  6. Bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes until golden. Drizzle with caramel and sprinkle sea salt while still warm.

Chef's tip: Make these the night before and store in the fridge—they'll proof slowly overnight, giving you a more tender, complex-flavored roll. Just bake fresh in the morning and your kitchen will smell incredible.
