Churros with Chocolate Sauce
These golden, cinnamon-sugar-coated fried pastries are a beloved Mexican dessert that's pure joy to make—crispy outside, pillowy within, and absolutely irresistible dunked in rich chocolate sauce.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 2½ tablespoons sugar plus ½ cup for coating
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Oil for deep frying
- For chocolate sauce: 4 oz dark chocolate, chopped
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon honey
Method:
- Bring water, 2½ tablespoons sugar, and salt to a boil. Remove from heat, stir in flour until a thick dough forms.
- Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Heat ½ inch oil in a shallow pan to 375°F. Pipe 4-inch lengths into hot oil, frying 2–3 minutes per side until golden.
- Mix cinnamon and ½ cup sugar on a plate. Drain churros on paper towels, then coat generously while warm.
- For sauce: heat milk gently, add chocolate and honey, stir until silky and smooth.
- Serve churros warm with chocolate sauce for dunking.
Chef's tip: Chill your piping bag and dough before frying—it prevents the churros from absorbing too much oil and keeps them wonderfully crispy on the outside.
